As you guys may or may not know, the program for this year's festival was released today. Check it out here:

(program)

Since I'll be in Zurich (Switzerland) for most of the summer, I will surely be there. This festival is so great. Any great musician/drummer you can think have has been there. Check out their past programmes for proof! Hope to catch anyone there

I'm thinking I will check out Mos Def. One of the very few hip hop artists that I consider to be a...well...artist. Eversince he tours with a band I have a lot more interest in him.
Medeski, Martin & Wood should be great too. Never had the chance to see them live.
Audioslave will be great: Love Soundgarden and Rage. Great combination
Too bad Grohl doesn't play for the Queens any more. Would have loved to check him out.

Haha, of course I would love to see them too!

SLASH IS GOD

That festival always has a big mix of music, which is what makes it so great. I guess they could update the name.

The only good thing about the 2005 version of the Montreux Jazz Festival is the setting. For those who have never been there, it's gorgeous surroundings. But, please, Velvet Revolver in the Stravinsky Hall? I guess "Montreux Jazz" is distancing itself from jazz in all of its known forms. Man, that's some sad programming. I'll miss the mountains and Lake Geneva and billeting up in some chalet, but speaking as an audience member, I sure wouldn't fork over big bucks to see the kind of mundane stuff advertised on the current Montreux program. Booker T? Come on, even when Al Jackson was alive the MGs were never even within spitting distance of jazz. And the program takes a decided leap downward from there. George Benson? He was just there a couple of years ago. Hopefully this time he'll bring Oscar Seaton, a killing drummer: If it ain't jazz, at least it's listenable and motivating.
They've got local talent in Montreux, in particular a drummer named Peter Schmidlin who runs a record label,TCB, who absolutely blows away the imported pop drivel. And to think, Miles performed there...... Hate to be negative but (since I'm being devil's advocate) has jazz lost one of its most distinguished forums?

Hey Willy,

You are absolutely right ! Montreux is now a pop festival with so little real jazz content.

And I'm sorry to say, that the Montreal Jazz fest is going in the same direction. Great festival in Montreal, but, please... let's keep it a jazz festival !

I believe that one of the purest jazz events is the Newport, RI festival. They always stuck with jazz greats. No watered-down pop BS !

I see what you guys mean. Guess it should be called Montreux Music Festival.
